Canada Day is this weekend. Here is a list of what’s open and closed in South Frontenac:

  • Township offices will be closed Monday, July 3
  • Garbage and recycling collection will be one day later the week of July 3
  • The Portland and Loughborough Landfill sites will be closed Saturday July 1
  • Loughborough Landfill will be open on Monday, July 3
  • Sydenham Library branch will be closed Saturday, July 1
  • Road closures are in effect on Rutledge Road and in the village of Sydenham on July 1 starting at 9:30 for the Sydenham Canada parade
  • The Cataraqui Trail in Sydenham will be closed between the George St and Clearwater Road trailheads between 12 pm – 12 am on July 1st. Alternate routes will be posted on the trailhead gates.
  • A Level One Fire Ban remains in effect in South Frontenac Township. Campfires and cooking fires only permitted (no fireworks). The Ministry of Natural Resources also has declared a Restricted Fire Zone that affects the north part of our Township where no burning of any kind is allowed. If you live in an area under a Restricted Fire Zone, you must follow MNR guidelines. We encourage you to check our Fire Ban Status page on our website, which also has a link to MNR information.
  • With the fire ban on, we’re encouraging everyone to come to the sanctioned Township fireworks display at 9:45 in Sydenham. There are ten different shuttle buses making it easy to get to our spectacular fireworks finale! Watch our website and socials to see updates on Canada Day if the show needs to be postponed due to weather or other reasons.
  • Canada Day events are often very busy. Residents are reminded to slow down and drive with extreme caution, particularly near the event sites at Glendower Hall, Centennial Park, Point Park, and Storrington Lions Club Hall.
