South Frontenac Township Unveils Plans for Town Hall Expansion
South Frontenac Township has unveiled its plans for expanding its Town Hall and municipal offices at 4432 George Street in Sydenham.
The expansion will increase the size of the current municipal offices from 8,761 square feet to 13,239 square feet with construction anticipated to begin in August 2024 and be completed next fall.
“We’ve seen a marked increase in the demands for municipal services in the past decade and we’ve outgrown our current space in Sydenham,” says Louise Fragnito, Chief Administrative Officer. “The population of South Frontenac is expected to grow by 25% in the next twenty years. This expansion will position us for growth in the future and help us better meet our residents’ needs.”
The expansion will feature more workstations and meeting rooms, separate planning and building reception areas in addition to a newly designed main reception area on the main floor, and an accessible lift for the public, along with other accessibility enhancements. The Township is hoping to include some building retrofit upgrades as part of the project.
The Town Hall and Council Chambers will be inaccessible during the expansion. Some staff will work remotely and some in temporary office space.
- The main Reception and Treasury department will move next door to the Sydenham Library Community Room, 4412 Wheatley Street which will be unavailable for booking by community groups starting in mid-July. The main library will remain open.
- The Building and Planning departments will relocate to Storrington Centre administrative offices at 3910 Battersea Rd. The main Storrington Centre will still be available for community groups to book.
- Council and Committee meetings will relocate to the Storrington Centre starting in September.
Residents are encouraged to refer to the Township’s website for details on how to reach departments and staff. There is no impact to the Township’s Public Services department located at 2490 Keeley Road.
“We aren’t anticipating any issues as we transition to temporary office space this summer,” says Fragnito. “During COVID, we successfully continued to serve residents, so it should be business as usual, but we are very excited to see work begin on the expansion.”
