Tax Sales

South Frontenac Township will occasionally list properties available for sale, based on property taxes being unpaid.

How do tax sales work?

Properties within the Township that have two or more years of unpaid taxes in arrears can be sold by the Township under the authority of the Municipal Act. For these properties, the Township will register a “Tax Arrears Certificate.” Once a Tax Arrears Certificate has been registered, the property owner has one year to pay all taxes in arrears, accumulated interest and penalties and any fees associated with the tax sale to stop the tax sale process. Failure to make a payment in full will result in tax sale of the property via public tender as per the Municipal Act.
