New Residents

Welcome to South Frontenac!

We’re so happy you’ve chosen South Frontenac to call home. We like to think living in South Frontenac as the best of both worlds – a place of community and natural beauty where you can enjoy a well-rounded relaxed lifestyle, but with all the amenities of Kingston just minutes away.

This page contains helpful information for new residents. We encourage you to explore our website and subscribe to pages that interest you like our NewsCareers or Events Calendar, and follow South Frontenac Township on FacebookX (formerly Twitter), Instagram and LinkedIn to stay up on news and events.

Garbage and recycling pick up is on the same day each week. You can find your pick-up day here. On weeks where there is a statutory holiday, pick up will be one day later than your usual day.

Garbage bags must be tagged – there is no limit to the number of bags you can put out. Landlords are required to supply tenants with tags. If you’ve moved in and your landlord or the previous owner didn’t leave bag tags, contact us at (613) 376-3027 or fswsupport@southfrontenac.net.

Recycling rotates between “blue” materials” one week and “yellow” materials the next week. Every new homeowner receives one blue box free of charge.

  • Blue materials = aluminium and steel cans, plastic/styrofoam containers and flattened, tied/taped cardboard (limits apply)
  • Yellow materials = Paper, newspapers, magazines, single ply boxboard, plastic bags, glass bottles and jars

Download our recycling calendar and post it on your fridge or download our South Frontenac Recycles app to get reminders and alerts on your phone.

You can buy extra garbage bag tags at these local retailers. You can buy composters for $50 and extra blue boxes and Enviromesh covers for your recycling for $10 each from our offices at 2490 Keeley Road.

Our Household Hazardous Waste depot is open from 3-8 pm every Thursday from April to November then on the second and fourth Thursdays from 3-7 pm for the rest of the year. The Depot is located at 2491 Keeley Road, across from our Public Works yard. There is no charge for residents of South Frontenac to drop off acceptable items at the depot.

To make sure your garbage and recycling gets picked up each week:

  • Have your items out by 7 am
  • Garbage bags can’t weigh more than 45 pounds or be oversized (standard size is 30” x 38”)
  • Tag it! Make sure each garbage bag has a purple bag tag. Wrap it around the neck of the bag and attach the ends together
  • Recycling must be in an open top recognizable recycle container - no garbage cans or bags, weight limit is 45 pounds including container

South Frontenac has two year-round landfill sites and three seasonal sites. See our landfill sites page for hours of operation and locations.

Property taxes help fund important programs and services. Tax bills are normally issued in early March and June, and are due the last working day in March, June, and September. We offer several payment options, including pre-authorized payment, online/telephone banking, payment through credit card, or in person, by mail or at the bank.

Property owners can contact the Taxation department at 613-376-3027 or by email at taxes@southfrontenac.net to request a copy of their tax bill.

See Property Taxes for more information.

The Township issues building permits and inspects septic systems. Building permits are required for additions or renovations to buildings and any new buildings or structures over 15 sq. metres (161 sq ft). Two full size construction drawings are required with Building Permit applications for major projects. If your property is listed as a Heritage property, you may be eligible to receive a grant.

We know construction projects can be overwhelming, so we’ve provided handy guides to answer your questions and help you through the process and a list of all building and septic permit applications and forms. We also encourage you to contact our Building Services department directly at 613-376-3027, or building@southfrontenac.net
