Agriculture and Farming

South Frontenac has strong agricultural roots and today farming is still a leading industry. With more and more consumers seeking local, ethical, and sustainably sourced food, the time is right to invest in agriculture in South Frontenac.

Unique opportunities in South Frontenac

Goat farming

The Canada Royal Milk plant in Kingston sources both cow and goat milk locally, providing a ready market for goat milk.

Frontenac Farmers Market

The Frontenac Farmers Market is a vibrant, local community-run market open Fridays from 3-7 pm from May until October. It's situated under the beautiful covered Grand Pavilion in Centennial Park in Harrowsmith, just off of a bustling commuter route. The market hosts special events throughout the summer and has strong support from the local community.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farming is a production and marketing model in which consumers buy shares of a farm’s harvest in advance. This model is growing in popularity as consumers shift towards locally sourced goods. Consumers benefit by receiving a variety of fresh, local products. Farmers benefit by receiving payment consistently throughout the year.  Many farms have been successful using this model. See www.CSAFarms.ca.

Farm-to-table opportunities

Kingston has been dubbed ‘Canada’s Foodie Capital’, with the most restaurants per capital. Many restaurants source food from local farm operations.
